Fun Monday -- Mama Said... Father Knows Best

Happy Fun Monday!
Fun Monday is hosted by Georgia Girls of In Good Company.
First of all, I'm really sorry I wasn't available last Monday. My absence was partly because I had problem with my internet connection and partly because I was stuck in an exam. I have two more to go on Wednesday, but I saved my FM post in drafts sharp by Saturday. So here it goes,

Today's topic is:
Mama Said... Father Knows Best

Mar 7What is some advice your mother or father gave you that you remember and/or still use to this day?
"We have two ears to hear and one mouth to speak"
Something I could never bring into practice. I was way talkative until my teens but then tried to control my habit. Result: Either I never talk with anyone, or (if I do speak) I babble on and on...

  1. Like you Kero, I have some reservations about this bit of advice. It is true that sometimes we talk too much and don't hear what others are trying to say to us. On the other hand, it's not good to always defer to others and let them have the stage. Everyone deserves their time in the limelight. I have a friend who is the mother of twins. From an early age she always listened to them and extended the same courtesy as she would to an adult. Now they are lovely young women and love her so much--even tell her so on Facebook!

  2. Love. Love. Love your quilt. Sends me reeling back in time to both my grandmother's houses where there was always a quilt hanging from a ceiling with stitches being added daily.
Good advice. Wish I used it more often. Then, there is an addendum that might be added:
"What you DO speaks so loudly I can't hear what you SAY."

  3. Yes, one of my bucket list items -- talk less, listen more. A true relationship consists of sharing back and forth equally.

  4. Good advice. Not one my parents ever passed along though. Too overwhelmed by noise, I think (six kids). I discovered that particular one after I was already an adult!
